Insulation materials

Insulating materials are used to protect connections and to separate cable runs. They protect against electric shock and act as a partition. Wire insulation must provide the protected wiring connection points with complete insulation against electric shock. Moisture penetration resistance and thermal insulation of the installation are also crucial. **Electrical insulation **is most often in the form of insulating tape, vinyl or flexible PVC. In some cases, glass, rubber, various plastics and plastics, porcelain, and more thermally resistant fiberglass-reinforced materials are used as insulators.

Thermal resistance of electrical insulation and cables

Insulation for high-temperature cables must not contain PVC plastics. They are good insulators, but the hardness of the material precludes their usefulness as protection of flexible cabling.

Insulating materials in practice

Cable wires irrespective of their place of work are the most popular carrier of energy and all kinds of signals carried through them. These can be IT, control or power cabling. Because of their wide range of types and the multitude of types of connections, taking into account the values of currents, loads of the installation and the environment in which they operate, they require appropriate and safe insulation and protection. Insulation for cables is a type of protection requiring high resistance. They are most often used in the installation of buildings, repairs of electrical and power supply systems of vehicles and connecting and insulating the wiring of machines and production equipment in plants of various types.

Mounting insulation tapes

Insulation tapes are available in various widths and material compositions. This has a direct effect on their insulating properties and mechanical resistance. Electrical insulation in the form of vinyl tape is highly valued in the installation business. It allows for immediate repair of damaged areas of the wiring and temporary or permanent protection of the place of failure. Flexibility that these insulating materials have, influences on better adhesion to the surface of exposed cables, what in consequence better seals them. It is also used to reinforce and shield groups of wires from possible further damage and abrasion. It is also possible to use them to mark the type and destination of a cable during various repair and maintenance works.

Insulation accessories

A good alternative for constructing and installing all types of cable insulation and splices is the use of heat shrink sleeves. Heat shrink tubing provides a more durable and stable connection of the cabling in many cases. The variety of their diameters allows to adjust their diameter to all types and kinds of cables. They allow for a permanent protection regardless of the material the cabling is made of. The principle of operation is the shrinking of the surface under the influence of temperature. Appropriate selection of the diameter of sleeves allows for tight protection of the place of cable connection. Various types of insulation and connection sockets and terminations are also used in electrical installations. Most of electrical equipment such as connectors, sockets, mounting bases and other accessories have sockets that allow direct contact with electric current. This is sufficient for full protection and allows electrical isolation at the required level for this type of equipment.
