I/O modules

Input/output modules commonly used in modern automation structures facilitate the construction of entire systems and shorten the search for possible faults. They are used to build local or distributed systems in conjunction with PLCs, PAC controllers. I/O systems are modern devices linking individual elements of control systems, handling a lot of additional information from connected objects.

Modern and flexible automation systems are required to build and operate larger and more efficient production line management and control systems. Increasingly, the structure and configuration of plants requires the use of distributed management solutions on the automation lines. This is the case in many industries, e.g. refineries, chemical plants, food industry, where distributed stations and IO modules are necessary to ensure the correct operation of devices.

Modular systems - comprehensive solutions

The expanding individual sectors of the industry, as well as the automation and modernization of existing production lines, require the use of modern modular systems. The I/O island is used between the different sectors in the communication and management structures. The maximum number of modules in an island can be 64. They connect particular distributed stations control panels included in the entire system by means of fast networks. The design of these systems is adapted to be mounted in control cabinets or in accessory casings directly on actuators. This structure allows the control structure to be reduced and the control modules to be compensated. Lines configured in this way enable increased work efficiency and allow faster access to the system.

IO modules - universality first

IO modules are also sometimes called DCS (Distributed Control System), distributed stations, remote I/O, I/O islands or modular systems. With the use of IO modules, it is possible to acquire information and diagnose circuits in real time from multiple devices.

The flexibility of these systems consists in:

  • flexible and configurable architecture,

  • integrated system of individual stations,

  • continuous work system,

  • system of connections and management uniform for the whole system,

  • possibility of remote monitoring and parameter configuration,

  • independent diagnostic function for individual channels.

Weidmuller systems, equipped with compatible elements for building a network using IO modules, are an example of hardware minimization of automation systems. The distributed stations used simplify and minimize the cabling connecting individual sections. The accessories include digital and analog I/O modules as well as expansion cards. Thanks to the integrated and compatible connection systems, the time and resources needed during servicing and repairs are reduced.

I/O modules - minimalism and efficiency

The space of today's production halls and control systems cover ever larger areas. The tens and hundreds of signals to be received and sent to individual sensors, motors, measuring devices and the rest of the system is huge. It is almost impossible to use traditional connections. An additional advantage of IO modules is the higher data transfer speed which increases the flexibility of communication.

The distributed I/O systems minimize the equipment needed to build an effective circuit. It is a programmable and very flexible system that connects the central controller with peripherals. Modular systems for mounting in control cabinets on a DIN rail reduce the space required for installation and have an IP20 protection class. I/O islands with an increased class of protection to IP67 are used to perform tasks in an environment exposed to a greater risk of industrial pollution. They are mounted directly on machines and actuators.
