Buying a classic light bulb costs a few zlotys, while one fluorescent lamp costs from 20 to even 40 zlotys. The difference between the two light sources is that a fluorescent lamp, unlike a light bulb, shines with more than one type of light.

How to choose fluorescent lamps?

When buying fluorescent lamps, it is worth choosing solutions from proven manufacturers. The selection of this type of products manufactured in the Far East countries does not guarantee that they will meet the quality requirements. It is definitely better to spend a larger sum once and allow yourself to be amortized over the course of use than to pay many times less for fluorescent lamps that will degrade quickly. When looking for fluorescent lamps of high quality, it is best to choose those that have been equipped with an electronic ballast. The parameter that deserves attention is also the durability of the product - if it exceeds ten thousand hours, one can safely suspect that the model will serve for a longer period.

Fluorescent and incandescent lamps - what's the difference?

The history of fluorescent lamps begins in 1939, when they were introduced to the market. At that time, they had the shape of elongated luminous tubes. They gained the form of classic light bulbs only in 1980. Since then, these products have been improved many times, making them far superior in quality to conventional incandescent lamps.

By lighting the bulb, we immediately get its full brightness in the form of a hundred process of luminous flux. In this respect, the fluorescent lamp is much slower, because it takes a while before it reaches its full brightness. In more advanced models, the duration is no more than two seconds, in economic options it can reach about ten seconds. Fluorescent lamps consume much less electricity than conventional incandescent lamps. On a monthly basis, you can make considerable savings with them. Unfortunately, you should also know that fluorescent lamps perform best at room temperature or above. Their installation in places with low thermometer values ​​will therefore result in poor performance in terms of light intensity. In the case of incandescent lamps, this point is irrelevant.

What to look for when choosing fluorescent lamps?

When buying fluorescent lamps, first of all pay attention to their quality and information about their service life. The best fluorescent lamps are those whose manufacturers guarantee that they will last for more than 10,000 hours. It is also important what is the maximum number of cycles of a given fluorescent lamp, i.e. how many times it can be turned on and off. This value can range from 3,000 to even a million - depending on whether you are reaching for a really high-quality product, or the one from a slightly lower shelf. Of course, the price of fluorescent lamps increases with the class. An important issue is also the color rendering index, which allows you to determine whether the obtained colors are natural to the human eye or on the contrary. The standard incandescent colors, where Ra is equal to 100, are seen as a benchmark. the so-called five-band or linear fluorescent lamps.

What to avoid when buying a fluorescent lamp

When choosing a fluorescent lamp, first of all, you must absolutely resign from buying low-quality products, the Ra index of which is lower than 60. Such products are not suitable for placing them indoors because they do not provide the right amount of light. The price can also be a determinant of quality - some producers release fluorescent lamps of a worse type, which are cheap, but their Ra index is much lower than declared. It is worth remembering that in this case, a much better option is to buy more expensive fluorescent lamps and allow the expenditure to be amortized over time.
