heat shrink tubing/tubes were developed in the USA in '50. for the aerospace industry.The wide range of applications and ease of use make heat shrink tubing applicable wherever it is necessary to protect, seal, insulate or connect many cables, wires or braids made of synthetic or natural materials.

Some types of heat shrink tubing may include an adhesive layer that helps bond the tube to the underlying material to form a waterproof seal, or an electrically conductive layer that provides an electrical connection between the two ends of the wire without having to solder them.

Use of heat shrink sleeves in photovoltaics

Heat shrink sleeves are used in:

  • sealing cable/wire connections against water and dust
  • insulating connections cables/wires
  • sealing corrugated pipe joints
  • marking cables/wires (using different colors)
  • bundling multiple wires
  • insulation of cable connections with ring terminals
Properties of heat shrink tubing
