Comments and advice on the use of solar energy with photovoltaic panels, resulting from customer inquiries:
1.In practice, the PV panel cannot be directly used to power any receiver.The panel must supply a regulating device intended for PV panels.Such devices are solar battery charging controllers or on-grid or off-grid inverters.PV panels can NOT be connected directly to batteries (they are quickly destroyed).
2.Technically, the panels can be connected directly to a heater type receiver (air or water heating), but this is completely pointless in terms of economic and efficiency.The PV panel is NOT a linear energy source such as a battery.Therefore, the load must adapt to the panel in order to use it optimally.The heaters have a constant resistance and connected panels will work with efficiency from 30% down 50% depending on panel parameters.And the problem will not be solved by connecting the heaters in series or in parallel, because the performance parameters of the panel, and thus its load, change depending on the panel's lighting.
3.Heating water or air with energy from panels is also not very profitable due to installation costs.The energy from the panels should, in the first place, replace more expensive energy, e.g. electricity used to illuminate the house, power devices such as refrigerators, etc.
Energy for heating is usually cheaper than electricity, eg natural gas, coal, wood for a fireplace.Heating domestic hot water or central heating it makes sense if we have such a large PV installation that we are not able to consume this energy for other purposes.
4.All methods and ways of storing electricity are currently UNPENSABLE.So it doesn't make sense to store energy in batteries or other energy storage systems.Battery charging efficiency is approx 60%.The discharge also has an efficiency of the order 60%.Additionally, the battery discharges itself over time.Battery life is approx 500 loading and unloading...
If we are connected to the power grid, let's take advantage of being a prosumer.In this model, the power grid is treated as a battery with efficiency 80% (i.e. very high efficiency).That is, the surplus of energy sent from our installation to the electricity grid is recovered with the coefficient 0.8
5.The use of batteries makes sense only when we do not have access to the power grid (campsites, holiday homes, campers, boats).In this model, we have no choice but to accept large losses.But we can minimize them - how?
- avoid energy conversion, i.e. use the voltage as much as possible 12V from a charged battery.We use LED bulbs for voltage 12V, we use laptop charger on 12V (car).Generally, use car cigarette lighter plug accessories (e.g. tourist fridge)
- If we need to supply the devices with voltage 230V must use an inverter-inverter.Devices are available on the market from 75W down 2000W.A major problem with these devices is the incorrect AC sine wave.As a result, some devices do not work with these inverters.Chargers for phones or laptops may not work, motor devices such as pumps, drills, refrigerators, etc. do not work.This effect of non-operation is unpredictable, i.e. on a given inverter, one laptop power supply starts and the other does not start ...The solution to the sinusoid problem are inverters with the so-called true sine wave, but they are much more expensive than those with ""modyfikowaną sinusoidą""
- additionally, inverters are equipped with humming fans and are not resistant to load spikes and overloads.Therefore, do not exceed 50% the maximum load of the inverter.
