Transport of non-standard goods
Oversized or non-standard goods are defined as cargo that requires specialized equipment and the fulfillment of certain conditions.
Criteria
One of the four most important transport parameters determines whether a given load is considered to be a non-standard size product:
- oversized cargo - goods whose dimensions slightly exceed the dimensions of goods approved for transport by standard means of transport and no special permits are required for its transport
- non-standard length – different engineering requirements can make it necessary to carry very long loads. For example, blades for wind turbines, which must be transported in one piece - their length can be up to 60 m
- large-size cargo - these are usually relatively light for their size (e.g. tanks, boilers or structural elements). Such loads require special route planning to avoid any viaducts or railway tracks
- weight – if the weight of the cargo exceeds 25 tons, then such cargo is considered heavy. It happens that the weight of the transported cargo reaches even 200 tons.
In order to consider a shipment oversized, one of the above conditions must be met, and the means of transport must exceed generally accepted standards, such as low-loader transport (transport of goods whose height is non-standard), tankers, transport of goods over 25 tons, or individual transport - dedicated to a specific commodity, specifying vulnerability, fragility.
The common denominator of the loads described above is that in order to be able to transport each of them, it is necessary to cooperate with specific transport companies with, if necessary, a number of permits and experience in unusual situations.
