Each reciprocating engine is equipped with a timing. It is responsible for delivering loads to the cylinders and discharging exhaust gases to the exhaust ducts. Construction and principle of operation of the valve timing

The OHV system has a more complicated structure that requires the use of many auxiliary parts, which is why it is not currently used on a large scale. Its work uses a shaft located in the unit block that transmits energy through the pusher and rod. Springs are also involved in the operation of the valves.

The last of the systems is DOHC, which is based on the presence of two rollers. Timing operating with them is characterized by the presence of more valves. This allows the engine to achieve a higher compression ratio, have improved flows, and have better performance. Some models of the concept cars use a timing drive with compressors, which allow precise control of valve lift without camshafts.

How often to change the timing?

Due to the complexity of the system and the difficult conditions in which it must work, individual elements last shorter than other moving parts of the engine, hence timing replacement is more frequent. It is recommended that service work is not limited to putting on a new belt. Periodically check the wear progress and check that it is not contaminated with oil or coolant. Timing belt replacement should take place every 5 years or more. The interval depends on the condition of the components, the way the vehicle is used and the quality of the parts purchased. How to set the timing?
