Selective circuit breakers

For many years devices responsible for protecting the end circuits there were so-called fuses in the electrical installation. After each short circuit, however, these fuses had to be replaced with new ones. When selective overcurrent breakers appeared, this problem disappeared. This equipment can survive even multiple failures of the electrical installation, i.e. various overloads and short circuits.

Selective circuit breakers: hardware that can cope even with multiple failures

Selective switches are chosen due to their high durability and high quality. They guarantee the ease of operation of the circuit breaker. Each MCB is short-circuit proof. It is a device that successively replaces fuses and is used to protect end circuits in an electrical installation. The main advantages of the miniature circuit breakers we offer in the shop are:

  1. multiple switching operations,
  2. compact design,
  3. perfect match of overload elements to thermal characteristics of cables,
  4. the possibility of purchasing additional accessories that allow the implementation of various protection, signaling, interlocking and remote control functions.

Of course, their most important advantage is short circuit resistance , which cannot be questioned. It is widely believed that circuit breakers guarantee selectivity of operation with a cascaded circuit breaker for short-circuit resistance. However, you should be aware that this is a misconception. Each overcurrent circuit breaker consists of two lines: primary and secondary. If the instantaneous value of the short-circuit current exceeds the upper limit of the electromagnetic relay actuation, the main circuit is immediately disconnected and the circuit breaker starts supplying the installation with the auxiliary short-circuit.

In this case, the value of the short-circuit current is limited to a maximum of five times the rated current of the selective circuit breaker. Pre-meter protections of this type are perfect for home conditions, which is why they are so eagerly chosen and successively replaced the existing forms. The single-phase B10 fuse is the best example of this.

Circuit breaker: diversified offer

The varied offer of overcurrent circuit breakers means that everyone can choose exactly the product they want. Each circuit breaker with short-circuit resistance operates with a rated voltage of up to 440 V and a current of up to 125 A. All models of selective switches have a unified width of 17.7 millimeters for a single module. In the upper and lower parts of the switches, there are screw connection terminals, to which power and outlet cables can be connected. In the front part of the equipment, such as the B10 fuse , there is a drive lever which switches the voltage in the circuit protected by the device. The device parameters are marked on the front panel of the switches, including its type, voltage and rated current. Selective switches are available with 1, 2, 3 and 4 poles, or with a neutral current path.

Each switch of this type is equipped with two releases: thermal and electromagnetic. The first type protects against overloads, while the second - against short circuits. As these products are manufactured in accordance with the standards that allow them to be used, you should not be afraid of their use. The Polish standard PN - EN 60364-4-41 indicates that selective switches are elements of protection against indirect contact. It is worth knowing, however, that due to the actuation time, it is not a sufficient element to protect against direct contact. Therefore, additional RCDs should be used in the power supply circuit.
