Screwdriver is one of the simplest hand tools in terms of design, used for assembling or disassembling threaded joints, i.e. screws and bolts. Screwdrivers are among the most popular hand tools due to the widespread use of threaded fasteners. Therefore, they can be found in every craft or industrial workshop, every construction or service team, as well as every household, etc.
Each screwdriver, regardless of its technical sophistication, consists of two main interconnected parts: the handle and the blade with a specially shaped tip, which is in direct contact with the head of the screw or bolt during the screwdriving operation. The screwdriver heads are made of heat-treated alloy steel or of a special ceramic compound (anti-magnetic and anti-electrostatic screwdrivers for electronics and work in clean rooms), while the handles are made of wood or plastic. Plastic handles can be of 1-, 2- or 3-component design. A distinction is also made between handles made traditionally, usually of wood, and ergonomic handles, i.e. those specially designed to reduce screwdriver user fatigue and eliminate hand injuries. A separate group of these tools includes anti-electrostatic screwdrivers (ESD screwdrivers with handles made of electrostatically conductive material) and folding screwdrivers, also called combination screwdrivers, with replaceable blades or bits. Folding screwdrivers have a 1/4" socket holder for bits on the handle or main blade. In combination screwdrivers with interchangeable bits, there is a magazine in the handle for these executables. Some of the combination screwdrivers with interchangeable bits are equipped with a 2-way ratchet mechanism that makes screwing in hard-to-reach places easier. Another group of screwdrivers are electrical phase detection testers that have a steel blade connected to a fluorescent lamp and a series resistor.
On the basis of the type of screwdriver drive, a distinction is made between screwdrivers with a flat blade, Phillips, Pozidriv, Supadriv, Torq-Set, Tri-Wing, HEX (for hexagon sockets), triangular, XZN, RIBE, Torx, Torx Plus etc. By the shape of the handle - with an axial lengthwise handle, type "T", flag type and key type. On the other hand, according to the type of work we distinguish: universal screwdrivers, screwdrivers for electricians, screwdrivers for electronics (anti-electrostatic and/or anti-magnetic), precision screwdrivers and screwdrivers with an impact handle. Screwdrivers are divided into traditional and ergonomic ones depending on the level of compliance with work ergonomics standards.
The technical parameters which characterize screwdrivers are: total length, blade length, handle length, type and size of the blade tip, total weight.
These tools are used for the assembly and disassembly of threaded fasteners: screws and bolts. Screwdrivers are therefore used in practically all industries. They are manufactured by Bahco, Felo, Gedore, Hazet, Stanley, Wera, Wiha and many others.
