Round plugs

Round plugs are a broad term in electrical equipment. They are located in many places and allow for quick and safe connection of individual elements of the electrical installation. Due to the construction and the possibility of connecting, they have a wide range of applications, from domestic electrical devices through industrial applications and transmission of control signals for devices and components of automatic lines.

Round plugs - types

From small household appliances to specialized multi-pin connection systems in industry, round plugs are the best and effective way to connect. Most cables have a concentric shape, which makes it easier to connect and wire devices. Standardized systems of industrial connectors enable their cooperation and connection regardless of the manufacturer and place of execution.

The most common type of round plug is the 2 pole plug in all kinds of electric tools and appliances. As a rule, it has protruding contacts enabling a safe and reliable connection in installations with voltage up to 250V. Both straight and angled types of round plugs are available for sale, some variants also have female sockets. Many of them have an additional grounding contact, and some of them have a button that activates the circuit on the casing and a lamp indicating the status of the device. There are also connectors in the form of sockets with a female type of connection. Regardless of the type, they enable connection between individual elements, devices and the source of power supply. Thanks to this type of connection, it is possible to distribute energy to particular target locations.

Another type of circular plug is a non-volatile connector for use in construction and connecting machines powered by three-phase current. The housing in such round plugs is made in the shape of an oval and has three to five pins. The place of cable connection is sealed with a twisted gland that seals the housing and stabilizes the cable at the same time. The method of connecting in power sockets is based on the push - pull system and is often secured against disconnection by a latch on the socket flap. Increased standards of mechanical resistance and increased IP protection allow them to be used outdoors without the risk of electric shock and short circuits in the installation. Power round sockets and plugs are adapted to work with a voltage of AC 400 V and amperage usually up to 32A.

Construction of industrial circular connectors

Industrial connectors most often take the shape of round sockets and plugs. The vast majority of them, due to the requirements of resistance to disconnection and the ingress of dirt, are twisted. But there are also bayonet push-fit types. In addition, the female elements of the sockets most often have a protective flap or a gasket that allows to protect the connected elements against the ingress of dust or water in accordance with IP standards. Twisted round plugs are made of resistant plastic, aluminum, brass or coated metal. Both external and internal surfaces are insulated and do not cause accidental short circuits of individual pins. Depending on the type and destination, they can have from 2 to even several dozen connection pins. Each of them is responsible for the distribution of energy in their circuit.

Industrial connectors, like other round plugs, can have a linear (straight) as well as an angular connection, most often it is 90 degrees. Depending on the place and destination, the connectors are responsible for the distribution of energy into many signals and locations. In multi-pin plugs and sockets, both a screw system for connecting cables as well as soldering or pressure are used.

Application in the industry of industrial connectors

Modern automatic production lines require precise distribution of energy and control signals to individual actuators. Round plugs are used to transfer data between controllers and systems managing the operation of machines and lines controlling production processes. In signal connectors, they are in the form of CPC (round plastic connectors) or UTG type connections. There are also circular military connectors with increased protection and resistance.
